Patterson Law is a general practice legal firm based in Kaitaia, Northland, New Zealand.

Clive Patterson first commenced legal practice in Kaitaia in January 1965 and subsequently became a sole practitioner in 1976. His son Mark joined the firm in April 2003 and subsequently became a partner in August 2006. In June 2014 our experienced family lawyer Simon Punshon joined the firm followed by another solicitor Anjenette Heffernan in July 2016. In addition to Mark, Simon and Anjenette our firm also has five support staff, one registered legal executive and one qualified legal executive.

Clive officially retired as a Barrister and Solicitor on 30 June 2015 after over 50 years of practice but remains as a Consultant of our firm and provides a notary public service to Northland.

 

MEET THE TEAM

Clive Patterson

Clive commenced his legal career in January 1965 in Kaitaia and has remained here since undertaking a broad range of legal work as general practitioner. Outside work he has been involved in numerous community groups including Lions club and Jaycees and he continues his involvement as trustee of several local charitable trust boards.

Mark Patterson

Mark commenced his legal career in April 2003 and became partner in August 2006. He works primarily in the fields of conveyancing, trusts, wills, estates, commercial law, relationship property and work related to the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988. Outside work he plays tennis and is a keen musician (bass and drums).

Simon Punshon

Simon commenced his legal career in 1984 working in several legal firms primarily in Auckland. In 2001 he and his family moved to Kaitaia and he set up his own practice. In June 2014 we welcomed Simon to Patterson Law as staff solicitor. He undertakes all types of Family Court work including care of children (including as Lawyer for the Child), domestic violence, adoptions and relationship property. He also undertakes work as duty solicitor in the criminal court and also employment law. Outside work Simon is a keen sports fan and enjoys beating Mark at golf.

Anjenette Heffernan

Originally from Fiji, Anje specialised in environmental and governance issues across the Pacific for over 15 years. She emigrated to New Zealand in 2008. She has a Bachelor of Law degree from Auckland University. She works primarily in all types of property transactions, Estates/Wills and Trusts. She also undertakes work on Immigration Law, Maori land Law and mediation and dispute resolution.

Chris Buckby

Specialises in Conveyancing, Wills and Estates. Chris handles the bulk of the Patterson Law estates work and has extensive experience in this area. She has worked in this field of expertise for more than 20 years. Her aim is to assist executors/trustees through the sometimes minefield of estate administration, as easy and stress-free as possible. Before joining Patterson Law in 2007, Chris’s working experience was with other several other local law firms in Kaitaia and several in Auckland. She qualified for membership of the New Zealand Institute of Legal Executives in 2007 and has been a Fellow of the Institute since 2012. Chris spends her recreation time relaxing at home on a lifestyle block with her family, gardening, reading a good book, and watching over her daughter’s horses when required.

Karla Patterson

Karla Patterson is a Registered Legal Executive and works out of the Mangonui office on Tuesday to Friday.

Her main areas of work are conveyancing, wills, estates and Enduring Powers of Attorney. In her spare time, Karla likes to spend time with her children and also sings in an all-female group called Soul Sisters

Carol Kitchen

Carol has worked for Clive and subsequently Patterson Law since 1990 and is the firm’s trust account administrator. She deals with the day to day running of the trust account which includes receipt and payment of client funds and term deposits, completing settlements etc. She also deals with the day to day running of the firm’s office accounts including reconciling , GST and the payroll. Carol is a primary contact for LINZ and assists solicitors and legal executives with all aspects of the e-dealing process. Outside of work Carol enjoys gardening and the outdoors.

Loryn Davis

Loryn has worked in law firms since 1991 and joined the Patterson Law team in 2004. Primarily Loryn’s role is personal assistant to Mark Patterson but she also assists other members of our firm with typing, front office duties, greeting clients and answering phones. Loryn has experience in the drafting of all documents to complete residential and commercial conveyancing transactions, together with drafting and typing documents such as wills, enduring powers of attorney, deeds, Probate applications and applications and documents relating to family law. Loryn is e-dealing capable and has knowledge and experience in the day-to-day running of our trust account.

Robyn Morrogh

Robyn began her early years by working in legal and retail in office administration.
Since then she has been self-employed, running family businesses such as commercial fishing, adventure tourism, and holiday accommodation management for the past 20 years.
Over the past 15 months she had the opportunity to joint the PL team and is part time as office receptionist.
Outside of PL she is involved with their own tourism business and enjoys the outdoor lifestyle and family time.

Nicola Williams

Nikki joined the firm in October 2013 as a part-time legal secretary. She has worked in law since 1987 – initially in Kaitaia for 8 years and then Auckland for 17 years, most recently working as PA to a Barrister.

Brenda Frost

Brenda has recently returned to Patterson Law after four years. Brenda’s primary role is legal secretary for Anjenette Heffernan and front desk receptionist. Brenda also assists other members of staff with any legal work required. Brenda has experience in the drafting of all documents to complete residential conveyancing transactions, drafting and typing documents such as wills, enduring powers of attorney, deeds, and probate applications.

Amber Knight

Amber works out in the Mangonui Office with Karla from Tuesday to Friday and has worked in law firms since 1995 (apart from a 7 year break where she owned her own business).

Amber’s area of work includes assisting Mark with residential and commercial conveyancing, estates, wills, enduring powers of attorney.

Anjenette Heffernan

She has a Bachelor of Law degree from Auckland University. While she works in Conveyancing, Estates, Trusts and Commercial Law, she also has particularly interests in Public, Employment, and Immigration Law. In her spare time, she makes organic soaps and body lotions and is helping her family develop their life style property in Taipa.
